What You Need To Know About Pump Hire Conditions

What Is Fair?

A cheap pump hire rate may not end up being the bargain you thought it was. Many hiring companies have carefully worded terms and conditions which cover wear and damage to the pumps. The definition of fair wear is a subjective thing. How do you decide if the amount of wear is excessive or fair? If you aren't very careful you can end up being hit for the full cost of a pump replacement which can be a bit of a nasty shock.

We prefer to keep things very simple and upfront with our hire customers. We don't argue over wear. We know our pumps are going into tough environments and we expect that to be reflected in how they come back to us. Wear is fine if it's clearly environmental wear. We are happy to cover the repairs. If it's shotcrete damage, we will also cover the repairs.

Reasonable Conditions

It is a different thing if the pump is returned with significant visible damage. We can all look at it and say, "Hey, you've hit that, or you've run over that and squashed it." Then we say to our customer, "You'll need to pay for this." There is never any argument because we only apply this when the damage is obvious and the customer can see it too. If something is fair and reasonable there is no argument.

Our terms are very clear. All wear is covered by us. If it's damage, whether it be accidental or malicious, you pay. Then when it's corrosion, we have a clear corrosion policy. We just have a straight rule where we say if it's corroded, you pay 60%, we pay 40%.

We aim to differentiate ourselves in the hire market. Our point of difference is fair rules about repair costs.

The Fine Print

The important message is if you are hiring pumps it is important to read the terms and conditions. You'll often find that these exclude shotcrete damage. They may exclude corrosion. How is fair wear defined? A new pump might set you back $10,000 so you need to know what you are liable for. If you do find that your current terms and conditions are a bit scary then know that we can offer you an alternative.
