When the Pump Problems Stopped

Mat Harding ran a complex of four large underground mines in the US, managing around 10 million gallons of water a day. For a long time, the news he heard about dewatering was rarely good: failed pumps, production delays and constant firefighting.

That changed when his operation moved from buying pumps to the PumpEng hire model, paired with The PumpEng Way of continuous improvement.

Two things stood out for Mat. First, average pump life extended, even in one of the toughest sumps on site. Second, and less expected, the benefits flowed downstream: fewer failures meant less pressure on procurement and logistics, and more time for his team to focus on business improvement.

His clearest measure of success was simple. For the first time in years, pumping issues stopped landing on his desk. No news was good news.
